Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

This Washington Vs. That Washington

Here are two things you need to know about the Washington Redskins (who the Hawks are playing Sunday):

In addition to their super-classy team name, they also have a total d-bag owner.

Last year, Redskin’s owner Dan Snyder sued the Washington City Paper after the paper shredded him for gouging fans, ruining players and coaching staff, selling beer in stadium bathrooms, and a long list of other questionable business practices.

Snyder eventually withdrew his lawsuit against the City Paper, and it turns out—as he later told the New York Timeshe hadn’t even read the article in the first place:

Earlier this year, you sued The Washington City Paper for publishing “The Cranky Redskins Fan’s Guide to Dan Snyder,” which, among other things, claimed that your company had engaged in some shady business practices. Have you read the article?
No.

How could you sue without reading the piece?
Because I heard all the details. But the entire piece? I’m not going to read that.

Oh, and he’s friendly with Jack Abramoff, too. Plus, Redskins’ coach Mike Shanahan is an awful, fantasy football season ruining lizard-faced monster (never ever draft a running back on that guy’s team). And this is why the Redskins must be destroyed.

Good thing the Seahawks actually have a legitimate shot at a win. The Hawks sometimes play well at home, and Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman is one of maybe six NFL starting QBs (along with Colt McCoy, Blaine Gabbert, Matt Leinart, Tim Tebow, and Kevin Kolb) who’s actually worse than our very own Tarvaris Jackson.

Go Hawks.

You’ll get little argument from THIS Redskins fan.  Fire the owner!!

  • 2 wrongs

Maybe we could do a deal — tell that other washington if they change the team name, we’ll let their residents vote for senator and congress? Then we could all be classy, all around.

It would be spectacular is Dan Snyder, 1/2 of the MAJOR LEAGUE ENTREPRENEURS [http://www.thesportsresume.com/mark-cuban-daniel-snyder-video/] and the Redskins make the playoffs. Definitely a comeback story.

This is the first season I did not gave Shanahan the opportunity to crush my team’s hopes and dreams. Probably not a coincidence I’m in first place.

Four of the QBs on that list are better than Tavaris Jackson. Better stick to the police beat kid.

I guess there was a third thing to know about the Other Washinton team.
