Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Ron Paul Endorses Koster

Libertarian patron saint Ron Paul endorsed John Koster for the US House of Representatives on primary night, a fact that seems to have been lost on the press. As far as we can tell, not a single news outlet has picked up the story; we only found out through Koster’s campaign website and a call in to Paul’s offices.

Koster, a Tea Party favorite who also garnered an endorsement from Sarah Palin, is in a tight race—so far he’s ahead of incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA, 2) by 160 votes in the primary Paul’s thumbs-up just adds to Koster’s anti-establishment momentum.

Not all Republicans are impressed with a Paul endorsement, though. When Clint Didier got Paul’s endorsement in the primary, Dino Rossi’s campaign scofffed the race would be “decided by Washingtonians, not out of state endorsements.”

Not sure why it would be a story. Most endorsements don’t warrant a story.

The Republicans had better wake up. The people have had enough of far right neocon policy and that still seems to be far too common among Republicans. I still believe Ron Paul would have beat Obama by a landslide in 2008 had he gotten the nomination instead of McCain. Obama didn’t beat McCain, Bush did! McCain represents exactly what the republicans need to get away from if they want to win. Go to youtube and watch the Republican debates. Hind sight really is 20-20! Ron Paul was right then and he hasn’t waivered. Anyone that gets his endorsement is going to pick up a lot of support from the newly awakened politically active. The thing about Paul is it takes a while to believe there really is someone in politics we can count on… A man of his word, who always sticks to the Constitution, fiscal responsibility and personal liberty. If he runs in 2012 I’ll be tearing the doors off the voting booth to get in there and vote for him. Any candidate that has Ron Paul’s support is a good choice! Ron Paul is very selective about who he endorses.
