Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Murray Slightly Ahead in Latest Rasmussen Poll

The latest poll from Rasmussen Reports has U.S. Sen. Patty Murray at 49 to 47 over Dino Rossi and 48 to 45 over Clint Didier.

Who cares. She has been part of the problem for 14 years. How can a person that has been in government for so long expect to be percieved as part of the solution. Don't make any sense.

  • Ira

And how many years did Dino Rossi serve in the state legislature?
Is the choice between an establishment politician who wore tennis shoes and an establishment politician who makes money from foreclosure seminars? Or a guy who used to tackle people for a living and wants to be an establishment politician?

  • giffy

Rossi tends to under preform his polling so this seems like a pretty good sign that Murray is looking good. If he could not beat Gregoire there is no way he is beating Murray.

  • Jon Morgan

14 years? She was elected to the Senate in 1992. Was she great her first 4 years and then turned evil?

  • Jon Morgan

2010 is not 2008. But yes, Murray is no Gregoire.

Also, you have to account for Rasmussen's well-known GOP bias. If they say 49-47, it's really more like 53-44.

In the end, the people of Washington are going to just say no being represented by a real estate developer who wants to repeal health care reform, reinstate the Bush economic program, end stimulus spending, drill in ANWR, opposes immigration reform and wage endless war on terror everywhere even if it means increasing military spending to ensure that the US continues to have the biggest ass-kicking military the world has ever known.
