Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Ron Paul Endorses Clint Didier

Here’s U.S. Rep. (and former dissident GOP Presidential candidate) Ron Paul’s statement:

“I am proud to endorse Clint Didier for United States Senate. Clint Didier will do the work to fight for lower taxes and spending and for more freedom in Washington. We need people like Clint voting with me in Congress.

“Clint Didier is a dynamic leader who understands our Constitution and will fight against out-of-control government to restore our Liberty. Clint has the courage to stand up against the bailouts and government takeovers being forced down our throats by Washington insiders.

“As a farmer and family man, Clint understands the challenges that we face. And, he understands that solutions lie in our Constitution and the great American traditions of freedom.

“The American people need more than just another vote. We need a man of principle who will always stand up for what is right. We need a citizen politician who will represent US. Clint Didier is just that kind of individual.”

The Didier campaign followed up with a statement from Didier and campaign spokeswoman Kathryn Serkes.

Didier said: “I thank him for recognizing that someone like me – NOT the establishment party’s insider – will have the courage and grit to stand up to government bail outs, sweetheart deals and the temptation of pork-barrel politics.”

“Dr. Paul knows so well that our Founders gave us a game plan –the Constitution.  And if we just go back to following it, we can get our country back on track.”

In the release, Serkes added:  “This is another indication that Washington State is a key battleground race.  “There is absolutely no doubt that the grassroots, not the political establishment, will call the shots in elections this year.”

Rossi campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Morris tells PubliCola, “This race is going to be decided by Washingtonians. Not out of state endorsements.”

BusinessWire had the initial Paul+Didier scoop.

In a sane world, an endorsement by ANY politician in that family would be a thing to decline.

  • giffy

I'm just happy to hear he's done enough bootstrap pulling to get off welfare!

  • Big Bob

Why do the superstars of the Republican party dislike Rossi so much?

  • Barleywine

    But for RuPaul.

  • Roseinnw

Obviously, none of you know a thing about Dr. Paul or the Constitution…educate yourselves before you vote in the Senate primary please!! For the sake of our great state of Washington and the country for that matter…

Screw all these party insiders. I'm going with Schalk Leonard – unaffiliated with any party and he seems like a quite reasonable candidate. He's also not taking donations.

Wow! I just read your blog and you think you would support Ron and Rand Paul, privacy, the Constitution, ending the gigantic government police state and war on drugs yet you must still be confused by the gigantic 2 headed party system that has lead our country to fascism where the losses are publicized and the profits are privatized. Time to wake up buddy, there's still a long trip down the rabbit hole.

Except they (using Ron, since he's the extreme version of Rand) don't believe what I believe at all. Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_position…

I'm a speech libertarian–and an utterly strong one. Everything in my opinion that we have derives from a strong 1st amendment, for starters . Everything; our whole society. Right off the bat, he wants to restrict speech. I however don't believe corporations are people, and think the hair brain rulings giving them people's rights are horrid things to be torn down with fire. We need business–but regulated. The Nordics do it right, and have weathered the recession easily. He's against net neutrality which I'm 100% for. His views on trials and juries to me are demented. He's an extreme libertarian when he claims to be, and except when it truly assures that all people really are equal in the eyes of the law. His views on same-sex marriage, for example, are comical side-stepping to fight them, in the same tired “but it will affect straight marriage” if you read between the lines. If Adam & Steve wed, it has literally no negative effect on my hetero marriage. Preposterous to suggest otherwise. I believe government's role is to help the helpless and to do Big Things that ordinary folks cannot.

I could go on and on but they and I are almost night and day apart the more we're compared.
