Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Beacon hill is a dead zone. they should put in a big parking lot and say “hey everyone, you want to take the train to the airport? Park here!”

This would boost the dollarts flowing to all the shops around there, too.

It would open up the light rail to thousands more users a day. Seriously, put in a 1000 car parking lot. everyone from west seattle could drive thre to access light rail too.

Clearly the day when Beacon Hill will have 20 story towers oer even any new deveopment is far, far off.

It was a big mistake to take out a whole block for a station. A station need only be holes in the ground for the stairs and escalator or elevator. They also have put up those twohour parking signs all over it means you can't park there to use the light rail, you have to go drive downtown and pay there or drive to airport and pay there to park.

For those who don't want to rise at 5 am and wrestle bags to a bus stop then take a bus for 40 minutes to light rail then switch, that's too much of a hassle. And what if it's raining?

I've walked to that station many times, and it is a station still waiting for something to happen. It's so nice, but so alone.

No doubt my anti-TOD friends will try their best to keep it lonely, and then say…..SEE!

Thanks for the pictures of that Mountlake Terrace parking structure, Mr. Baker! Sooooo attractive! Wouldn't that look beautiful plopped down on Beacon Ave!

We are talking about a CITY, for God's sake. Walk. Bike. Take a bus. Or, if necessary, have somebody drop you off. We do not need more parking structures! If you like parking structures, move to Mountlake Terrace or Renton or Puyallup — or, better yet, Los Angeles!

On the other hand, I wish Sound Transit would do something to develop or enhance the fenced desert around the station there on Beacon Hill.
