I dropped a hint of this collaboration a couple of weeks ago but now the word is finally official: Seattle hip-hop groups Champagne Champagne and THEESatisfaction are releasing a limited edition 7 inch record and they’re playing a show together later this month in support of the release.
On February 25, the two groups’ smashing 2009 combo-anthem, “Magnetic Blackness,” is coming out on vinyl. Considering how successful that track became locally, THEESatis and Champagne Champagne hit the studio again earlier this year and recorded a new song, “Bird Lives!” that’s going to serve as the B-side single. Only 500 copies are being pressed up. Both Champagne Champagne and THEESatisfaction will be performing an intimate show together on February 25 at the Can Can inside of Pike Place Market to celebrate and will be selling the Magnetic Blackness/Bird Lives! 7-inch for $7 dollars.
With the resurgence of vinyl, I’ve been wondering for awhile why almost no Seattle hip-hop acts were releasing music on wax. Sure, not everybody has a record player anymore, but for folks who still like to spin records at home, having a local crew dedicated to putting out local hip-hop on vinyl only makes sense. It’s now a reality. The folks at Member’s Only (who have thrown more than a few raucous late night soirees in their time and, full disclosure, for whom I’m doing some unpaid promotions work) paid to have the vinyl pressed up. If everything works out, Seattle will have a little mini-label pressing up Seattle hip-hop on vinyl.
