Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Re: Even Dave Ross is banning Pam Roach

Pam’s abusive nature hasn’t changed much since I first met her in 1977. It is not surprising to see the manifestations of her pit bull personality make headlines again with her latest tirade against Dave Ross’s staff. These traits were in full display in her first campaigns. She first ran in 1988 (she was investigated for her tactics) and again in 1990 for the Senate. That race she won by a narrow margin primarily because it was run by a D.C consultant. The voters of the 31st district should demand her immediate resignation from office given her troublesome behavior. At the very least the district must field a credible candidate to run against her…if she runs again.
However, I fear we have not heard the last of these episodes of Pam’s highly unusual behavior. Pam is fueled by 100% ego and cannot find a way out of that very limited space. Not that we who are/were in politics are devoid of ego. There are egos involved, of course. However, my experience not only in Olympia but in much wider political circles, finds a very definite collegial atmosphere prevails for civil debate and work on issues along with a courteous regard for staff.
Her hair trigger (she is an expert marks-woman) with Dave Ross’s staff sounds like the typical, explosive episodes common with Pam. I am sure the Senate is exercising due care and caution as Pam presently simmers in her own stew.
Pam, if you read this (and I am sure you will), it is long past time for Pam to learn about Pam. Find a professional therapist now who can help you with that discovery…before it is too late for you. As the inscription on the Temple of Apollo read: “Know Thyself.”
And, Pam, I suggest you resign today from your 31st District Senate seat. It is a complete disservice to the voters of the 31st District to have you in office when you are totally emasculated of any effectiveness.
