Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

You’re Invited. Tomorrow Night.

Re: This reader comment:

“What is the schedule of events? What about the SOFU? I know this is blasphemy, but let’s say we want to miss the band and just see people? Is there a program? Are people speaking at all?

I have a few things happening that night and need to shuffle things around. Please advise.

This comment is about tomorrow night’s PubliCola anniversary party at the Crocodile (2200 2nd Ave., 2nd & Bell).

And yes, wanting to miss THEESatisfaction is actually double blasphemy. Blasphemy against Apollo, the God of Music, and Erato, the muse of lyric poetry.

It’s also blasphemy against: Our Parents Music, Seattle, African-Americans, Queer folk, Ancestors, Erykah Badu, Mac Dre, 2pac, Black Thought, Dave Chappelle, Jack Davey, Angela Davis, Brooke D’Leau, Ella Fitzgerald, Marcus Garvey, Gil Scott-Heron, Lauryn Hill, Billie Holiday, Langston Hughes, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Muhsinah, N.E.R.D., Jill Scott, Bobby Seale, Emmit Till,

Devin the Dude, ?uestlove, Racism(White Supremacy), Malcolm X, Steve Biko, Dr. Neely Fuller, Dr. Frances Cress-Welsing, Huey P. Newton, Star Trek, Harry Potter, ET, Outkast, Sun-Ra and the Arkestra, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, David Bowie, Allen Strange, Homeboys In Outer Space, Lil Wayne, George Clinton, The Brothers Johnson, Horus, Isis, Nefertiti, Osiris, Moses, Barack Obama, Mos Def, Pharoah Monche, Niggy Tardust, Cloud Nice, The Temptations, The Five Heartbeats, Janet Jackson, Ike and Tina Turner, Radiohead, Nirvana, Sound Garden, E-40, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, TLC, Queen Latifah, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Lil Kim, JJ Fad, The Digable Planets, A Tribe Called Quest, Miriam Makeba.

That’s who THEESatisfaction lists as their influences on their MySpace. (We’ll add Duke Ellington.)

But for you apostates, who just aren’t down w Angela Davis meets David Bowie, here’s the schedule:

6pm doors (free), State of the Union, mingle, free drinks
7:30 CMYK, speed polling, mingle, free drinks
8:30 Song Sparrow Research, mingle, not sure about the free drinks anymore
9pm Cola gets roasted by the Washington Bus (plus a discussion of  the polling results)
9:30 THEESatisfaction

Will the SOTU be audible & screened in its entirety?

Will there be a special roped off section for those that utilize Twitter to spread the good political word of Publicola?

If not, can one be made for me? (lol)

Thank you, kindly. I will be there in time to see THEE Satisfaction, mingle, get a slice next door and ask people what I missed in the SOFU. Much appreciated!
