Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

THEESastisfaction's Icing on the Cake

It’s no secret that the Cola has a lot of love for the ladies of THEESatisfaction. Maybe it’s because they’re one of the most artistic and original hip-hop groups in the city. Or maybe it’s that they grew out of the magical Hidmo scene, Seattle’s blossoming urban music venue. Whatever it is, they rock, and we’re going to keep updating you because THEESatisfaction are a must-follow.

They recently released a new single called “Icing” that’s starting to catch fire across the web. They made it with local producer OC Notes who not only raps but provides the beat on the song as well.

It’s undeniable that the shining moment of “Icing” is when THEESatis’ lead MC, Stasia, raps: “I’m just Christing, I said I’m doing just fine, I’m just Christing, like I just left church nigga, I’m trying.”

They’ve given new meaning to having a god-like flow.  You can download the song here.

THEESatisfaction performs on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Crocodile as part of the Go! Machine.

It looks like Go Machine is going to be the biggest hip-hop show of the week. Maybe of the year. I don’t know if I like this song though.

I love this song. Christing is verb of the month. I can’t believe I still haven’t seen these ladies perform yet.
