Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Fitting to highlight SeattleCrime this week considering Constantine’s recent sexual harassment complaint.

@ 1 How Appropriate must not be a regular reader at PubliCola since they seem to have missed yesterday’s headline and article County Council Spokesman on Constantine: “No Complainant. No Complaint.”

Here’s a link to make it easier for @1 to find.

@2 headline and article I mean.

Without edit and preview functionality, I seem destined for the typing, copy, and paste hall of shame. :-(

I used to read Erica’s “C if for Cocina” regularly, but she hasn’t posted anything in months. Does its continued presence on your Blog-Rola indicate future plans to update?

HA is really good; Goldy writes passionately and logically. However, why does it draw so many awful comments? There are three or four regular commenters who make it extremely painful to read the others. When you see “53 comments” at the bottom of an article, it’s difficult to simply not wade in, but there are some nasty people who never seem to show up on other local blogs, and they just plaster their evil stuff all over the site. Is it a matter of culling the comments, or does every blog just let them come, no matter what?

    @6,

Yeah. I hate to say, but we’re gonna have to replace C is for Cocina if ECB doesn’t step it up…

The thing is…she’s busy as hell writing for PubliCola.

…I guess the C is for Cola now.

I will start a blog. I will write about all things that are important; me. I will never be in that list.

I changed my mind. I will not start a blog. I will continue to lower the value of this blog by posting randomly while having a drink. And I still think that Purr for Happy Hour (until 8p) on Election Night is the best way to start your campaign parties.

    Please never ban me.

And, for the love of God, even if you’re voting for McGinn, make sure you vote, and make sure all of your friends and family vote. Democracy only works when people make it work.
