Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Press Release Roundup

No PRR today. We’re just too busy. (For example, please check out Erica’s scoop about several homeless people’s claims that they were coerced into participating in SHARE’s recent protests at the mayor’s house and at several council members’ houses.)

We don’t want  you to go without video, though.

So, here’s yet another campaign spot. This one from Sierra Club activist Mike O’Brien, who’s running against landlord Robert Rosencrantz for retiring council member Richard McIver’s seat.

Press Release of the campaign cycle is out and there is no PRR today?!?!?! It’s going to be brutal to watch Dow on the debates, he has lost all credibility.

    @1,

Are you talking about Susan Hutchison’s press release about Constantine’s emails saying he’d vote against the flood district?

    Pretty hot.

Keith Ervin @ the Seattle Times did pick that one up:
    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politicsnorthwest/2010073324_e-mail_constantine_was_prepare.html

I don’t think he gave it a grade, though.

Got my pre-election Mallahan mailer today.
One side is sunshine and the flip-side is McGinn dark clouds.
    Classic.

Plenty of pols make the mistake of packing the flipside with details that are not going to get read before the card makes that 15 second trek to the recycle bin.

Yes, that is the one…I’m glad at least one media outlet picked it up…I look forward to your post later today/tomorrow :-)

Sooooooooooo…how about a preliminary grade? You gotta give em an A+, right? Has Dow responded with a press release of his own? This is so bad for him…

Look, I remember when Phillips sent an email to the exec, with BF and others in tow, that would have denied certain parks funding if Larry didn’t get what he wanted. I don’t recall any press about those negotiations.

This, for those of you who are unaware, is how deals are made. Moreover, regardless or who’s in charge it always will be.

So, nothing to see here. Move along…

Except denying certain parks funding doesn’t risk peoples’ homes and lives. You don’t play politics with this. He got called out earlier on his tactics. He flat-out denied it. He lied. Now he’s been caught in a lie, and he’s trying to say that it was taken out of context. I don’t know how you take it any other way. In order for him to vote for the flood district, he demanded votes for his pet project, the ferry district. This is unfortunate at a whole other level as he has since recognized and admitted the financial boondoggle that project turned out to be.
