Viva La Cola!

Founded in January 2009, PubliCola is a blog about Seattle written by journalists who are dedicated to non-partisan, original daily reporting that prioritizes a balanced approach to news. Started by longtime local editor and award-winning reporter Josh Feit, PubliCola is the first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol.

PubliCola was off and running. In June 2009, PubliCola hired another award-winning journalist, super-sourced Seattle city hall reporter Erica C. Barnett.

People were afraid that blogging would change journalism. Instead, we believe journalism can change blogging. Twenty-first century journalism may look and feel different, and yes Erica isn't afraid to get cranky, but we're committed to making sure online news still delivers independent, reliable, even-keeled coverage. And most of all, we're committed to making sure the coverage sparks honest civic debate.

Bringing you cola for the people, PubliCola is named after Publius Valerius PubliCola, the alias for the authors of the Federalist Papers—the original bloggers.

The first online-only news site in state history to get media credentials to cover the state capitol and Seattle city hall, PubliCola has been called a “must-read” by the Seattle Post Intelligencer and a hot “New Media Mover and Shaker” by Seattle Magazine—which also cited our own Erica C. Barnett as the city's No. 1 news nerd.

Morning Fizz

1. What’s up with John Cusack and Mayor Nickels’ daughter?

2.  Does King County Council Member Julia Patterson have the most votes?

3. The Mayor’s office is more afraid of Peter Steinbrueck than developer Greg Smith

4. Is the 1% MVET going to kill the tunnel in Olympia?

5.  What’s up with John Cusack and Mayor Nickels’ daughter?

PS, yes there’s some racy fizz right here, but yesterday’s installment is stirring up the comments.

I always wanted one of those Katrina and the Waves type coats, but never got one. And the shoes would never fit me. And if I held my radio up like that, the speakers would fall off and the tuner would hit me in the head. Plus you’d expect someone driving that kind of car to be cranking Led Zeppelin and not Peter Gabriel.

    But that’s Hollywood for you.

Josh, more Fizzle without cola (as in sell sizzle not steak).
Julia Patterson as KC exec? Ok, that would be interesting. Then we would have to add her name to the list of candidates for Gov in 2012 (if our present Gov does not seek a third term) and we would need to find a replacement for David Upthegrove once he moves from the house to KC Council. Then we would have to give Jay Inslee much stronger odds of winning the democratic or top two primary for Gov in 2012 (since Julia and Lisa Brown would split the female gender motivated D vote).
It is also good fizzle to follow the Larry Phillips dominos all the way to John Burbank’s chance to gain a house seat so soon after loosing his quest in the November primary.

For now though, all this fizzle is less interesting than the real cola. This being, the Ron Sims new job status. Yes, I read your post back on Monday and hear the whispers as well. Feed us Josh. Chirp chirp. We need real cola.

KC elections are now non-partisan, which gives a suburban D cover to get backing from the 4 suburban Rs, and bada-bing, bada-boom, ladies and gentlemen, County Executive Julia Patterson.

Just a conspiracy theory, of course.

I think its all part of Jay Inslee’s top secret, extra crafty master plan.

While the King County Council positions are nonpartisan, the councilmembers certainly are not. They caucus and vote by party, for pete’s sake! Everyone comes to elective office with a history of having joined organizations and having endorsed and donated to other politicians. We know who they are. If nothing else, Susan Henderson should have proved my point.
